We place an emphasis on providing our pupils with the skills to learn for themselves, under the guidance of their teachers. We have a superb school library with satellites in most academic departments.
Our boys follow a cross-curricular course to develop their competence in information technology and to enable them to use the school-wide IT network. Our excellent facilities provide email for boys and staff, and controlled but extensive access to the internet for academic research. All study, whether in the classroom, laboratory or workshop, is enriched by field visits, visiting speakers who are often among the most eminent in their field, and by other extra-curricular activities.
A real partnership
We recognise that education is a three-way partnership between pupil, parent and school and we encourage parents to participate as fully as possible in their son’s education. There are regular reports and an annual parents’ evening, and informal contact with tutors and housemasters is also welcomed. Parents are invited to many events at the school and are always encouraged to support their sons on the touchline or in the auditorium. All parents are members of the Friends of Monmouth School for Boys which organises a lively programme of activities during the year.
The school’s curriculum is based on the National Curriculum but is not constrained by it. We introduce pupils to a wide range of subjects in their early years at the school and they usually go on to take nine or ten subjects at GCSE. Well offer around 25 A level subjects in the Sixth Form. In addition to their A level studies, your child will have the opportunity to pursue a variety of enrichment and supplementary course.
