Success for talented athletes

Harry is second in the Welsh rankings and 14th in the UK for his age group.

Athletes at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are making a strong finish to the summer season.

Runner Harry triumphed in the Under-13 A 800 metres at the Welsh Junior League Club Cup Final in Swansea.

Harry, a pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, crossed the finishing line in 2:18.10.

Fellow Monmouth pupil, Aharon, 13, also impressed, coming second in the Under-15 B pole vault with a clearance of 2.50m

Harry, who was representing Newport Harriers, took fifth place for his age section in the javelin with 28.15m to maintain his recovery from injury.

Monmouth School Boys’ Prep pupil, John, aged nine, ran in the Under-11B 800m for Newport Harriers and came second in 2:50.64. He also ran a leg in the 4x100m relay.

Antonia, 15, had her first track race seven months after taking silver in the Welsh Indoor Under-17 Women’s 300m.

The Monmouth School for Girls’ pupil ran 200m in the Exeter Harriers’ Open and won her heat (Heat 6) in 28.47s.

As part of her ongoing recovery after injury, Antonia wore splats (a cross between trainers and spikes).

Meanwhile, Harry, 12, also ran in a paced 800m (Heat E) at Exeter organised by the British Milers’ Club, the premier middle distance running club in the country.

The youngster had a storming run and took second spot in his heat in a new personal-best time of 2:16.67.

Harry is second in the Welsh rankings and has now moved up to 14th in the UK standings for his age group.
