Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls is beaming with pride as their U14 and U18 girls’ hockey teams showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship at the Hockey Wales National Finals in Cardiff. Despite not clinching the top spot, the silver medals earned by both teams signify their dedication, hard work, and remarkable journey to the finals.

In tightly contested matches against Glantaf School and Howells School, the girls demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and unwavering determination. While the final scores didn’t favour them, the teams’ outstanding performance on the national stage speaks volumes about the competitive spirit and excellence fostered at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls.

Bella and Mali emerged as standout goal scorers, contributing to the teams’ impressive run in the tournament. Director of Sport, Mrs. Caroline Jones, praised the girls’ exemplary performance, stating, “The girls acquitted themselves brilliantly to the big occasion and learned so much. We’ll be back to fight again next year!”

PE Teacher, Sorrel Wilson, emphasised the significance of the achievement, highlighting that Monmouth School for Girls was the only school in Wales to have two hockey teams in the National School Girls Finals. Despite the challenges faced, the girls displayed remarkable resilience and skill throughout the matches.

Wilson commended the parents, supporters, and younger pupils for their unwavering support, acknowledging the role they played in encouraging the teams until the end. She expressed hope that the younger pupils would be inspired by the achievement and strive to emulate it in the future.

As they return home with their silver medals, they serve as inspiring role models for their peers, embodying the school’s ethos of excellence both on and off the field.
