U18 1st XI Hockey Team
On 5th March, the U18 1st XI Girls Hockey team embarked on a journey to Swansea for the National Regional Finals. Competing against formidable opponents including Glantaf, Llandaff Cathedral, Brynteg, Christ College Brecon, and Brynhyfryd, the girls displayed remarkable resilience and skill, emerging as the top contenders on the scoreboard.
Their stellar performance has now guaranteed them a place in the National School’s Finals scheduled for March 21st in Cardiff, where they will face off against Glantaf. The stakes are high, with the victor claiming the title of National Champions among all schools in Wales.
Reflecting on the team’s achievement, Head of Hockey, Sorrel Wilson, commended the girls for their unwavering dedication and determination. Wilson noted, “Every individual girl worked incredibly hard and fought right to the end of each match. They displayed, passion, determination and resilience and ended up beating teams who, in the past, we have struggled to beat. That came down to our girls’ passion to succeed, commitment to do well for one another, as well as their dedication to training over the last two terms. It has been a pleasure coaching these girls and they thoroughly deserve their place in the National Finals.”
We also report another fantastic win for our girls’ Hockey, with the U14 team also qualifying for the National Finals after winning 4 games against Llandaff Cathedral (1-0), Milford Haven (1-0), Botwnnog (2-1) and Tywyn (4-0), and drawing 0-0 with Howells. Wilson shared, “The girls are such a committed and hard working team. Every individual has grown and developed their hockey skills over the last two terms and therefore thoroughly deserve to be in the finals. They played some tough hockey in the semi-final rounds, and didn’t make life easy for themselves, however they displayed some intelligent and mature hockey and their passion and determination really shone through.”
