High-flying trampolinists leap into national finalsJanuary 23rd, 2018
Students from Monmouth have leapt into the British Schools Gymnastics Association National Schools Trampoline finals.
Monmouth School for Boys’ Robin and Monmouth School Boys’ Prep’s Lawrence have qualified as individuals for the showpiece event in Northern Ireland on 24th March.
Lawrence will also be competing in the Under 14 Intermediate Boys’ team alongside Lewis, Joan and Toby after they finished second.
Monmouth School Boys’ Prep pupils Feargus, Gabriel, Rupert and Oscar are also jumping for joy after finishing second in their Under-11 Boys’ team to secure qualification for the finals.
Gymnasts from Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School Girls’ Prep also competed at the Central Zone Trampoline competition in Chesterfield on Sunday.
The Central Zone included trampolinists from Wales, West Midlands, East Midlands and Eastern regions.
Eleven-year-old Lawrence was in excellent form, finishing an impressive runner-up in the Under-14 Boys’ Intermediate section.
Robin, from Ross-on-Wye, took third place in the Under-19 Boys’ Elite category to seal his spot in the finals.
In the individual boys’ novice section, Feargus narrowly missed out on individual qualification by just one point, coming fourth out of 18.
Gabriel produced two good routines to achieve a personal best score, while Rupert, who only started trampolining in September, showed great maturity. Oscar stayed calm and focused to complete two very good routines.
Senior pupil Kia, from Ross-on-Wye, finished sixth in the Under-19 Girls’ Intermediate and a team of Yasmin, Petra and Ffion represented Monmouth School Girls’ Prep in the Under-11 Girls’ Novice category where they came fourth.
