Estyn, Wales’ version of Ofsted, inspected Monmouth School for Boys and Boys’ Prep in 2014, and Monmouth School for Girls and Girls’ Prep in 2015. Their reports, published in 2014 and 2016, found that all four schools were rated as ‘Excellent’ in every category.
On the 400th anniversary of the boys’ schools, they were delighted to have been judged ‘Excellent’ in all categories, including for standards; well-being of students; learning experiences; teaching; care, support and guidance; the learning environment; leadership; improving quality; partnership working; and resource management. This highest rating from the inspectors indicates “many strengths, including significant examples of sector-leading practice”. On the schools’ current performance, the inspectors found that the standards achieved by pupils were “extremely high and well above expectations”.
According to the report published by inspectors in 2016, Monmouth School for Girls and its preparatory school, are achieving “extremely high” standards which are “well above expectations.” The schools have won the highest praise possible from the country’s education inspectorate, being judged “excellent” in both current performance and prospects for improvement.
“Many strengths, including significant examples of sector-leading practice,” were indicated by the rating from inspectors, who visited in December 2015.
All four schools were praised for their performances in public exams, rating them as “outstanding”, with almost all their pupils attaining the level 2 equivalent of five or more GCSEs at grade A* to C, and 60% of entries graded A* to A, while at A level, half of entries were graded A* to A.
