Pupils ‘Dash’ to tournament semi-finalJune 18th, 2019
Talented football players from Years 6 and 7 at Monmouth School for Girls qualified for the semi-final at a recent Monmouth Football tournament.
Playing under the team name of the ‘Monmouth Dashers’, Lucy, Emma, Olivia, Seren, Arabella and Thandi played five extremely competitive games in the U12s category, improving their individual skills and team performance with every game.
Speaking about the event, Mr Meek said: “Some of the girls had relatively little football experience before the tournament and did extremely well – coping with fast attacking teams, defending and taking the ball forward at every opportunity.”
After three games – winning against Raglan Doves and Ross Juniors, and drawing against Ledbury Swifts – the team settled into their preferred positions, finishing third in the pool and qualifying for the semi-final. This game saw the Monmouth Dashers play against Monmouth Town, losing 2-1 after an extremely competitive game.
Mr Meek added: “Great fun was had by all. Congratulations to the girls, who demonstrated great team spirit and ability to eat sweets and ice cream during the breaks – much needed sugar as we didn’t have any substitutes!”
