The impressive hockey players at Monmouth School for Girls have finished runners-up in the Hockey Wales Under-14 National Schools Finals.
Monmouth conceded a last-gasp goal in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf in an action-packed final.
Goalkeeper Sophia typified the outstanding spirit and work ethic of the Monmouth team by sitting her Maths exam at the Newtown venue on the morning of the finals.
The girls had booked their place at the national finals after winning the South-East Wales title at Rougemont.
They promptly topped Pool A and their results included fine wins against Rydal Penrhos (5-0) and Christ College, Brecon, (2-1).
The Monmouth girls recorded an excellent 4-0 victory against Brynteg 4-0 in their semi-final.
The girls produced a fine showing against Cardiff-based Glantaf in the final before succumbing to a late goal.
Despite the defeat, Monmouth’s players should be very proud of their tremendous collective efforts.
