An impressive junior crew of rowers at Monmouth School for Girls finished second in their category at the Schools’ Head of the River Race this week on the prestigious Tideway course.
The J15 crew of Rosie, Edie, Ellie, Carys, Eva, Hannah, Cerys, Carys and Abbie (cox), had an exceptional row, overtaking two rival crews to clinch second position in a time of 22:11.1.
The senior eight of Josie, Jemima, Eleanor, Lauren, Sophie, Madeleine, Tabitha, Elina and Toby (cox) also had a fine race, finishing 11th in 20:40.6.
More than 300 crews took part in the event which, at more than 4.5milles in length, was the longest course in which these athletes had competed.
“For all our athletes it was their first time on the prestigious Tideway course due to recent years being cancelled,” said Monmouth School for Girls’ Rowing coach, Miss Briana Williams.
“The coaches are extremely proud of all our rowers who stepped up to the tough Tideway course.
“With the days getting lighter, we can look forward to the summer racing season with these brilliant athletes.”
