HMSG well represented in national hockey competition

May 19, 2015

In this year’s Hockey Wales Youth Cup Finals, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls had seven pupils competing for two different hockey clubs.  In the U13 competition Elin played goal keeper for Abergavenny Hockey Club.  They won their matches versus Wrexham, Dysinni and Gwent and were crowned Welsh champions.  Elin played out of her skin and did not concede one goal all tournament.  In the same competition, playing for Gwent Hockey Club, Mari, Steph and Cara finished in second position.

GwentWIn the U15 competition HMSG pupils Mary (goal keeper) and Amy both played for Gwent and again finished in second position behind winners Colwyn Bay.

Similarly, Year 13 pupil and Welsh international Fleur also representing Gwent also finished second after losing their final to Swansea Hockey Club.

The popularity of hockey continues to grow at HMSG. It is fantastic to see so many pupils also playing club and 360 hockey and making that next step towards the dream of one day playing hockey for their country.
