Staff lace up trainers to raise money for kidney research

September 3, 2019

Staff at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools hit the streets of the Welsh capital for the Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10k.

The six-strong team was put together by Headmistress at Monmouth School for Girls, Mrs Jessica Miles.

Each member of the team achieved a personal best time for the distance and raised money for Kidney Wales on Sunday 2nd September.

Mrs Miles was supported by her Deputy, Mr Tom Arrand; and colleagues Mrs Helen Edwards (PA to Mrs Miles); Mr Alex Peace (Head of Boarding), Mrs Jennie Phillips (Headmistress at

Monmouth School Girls’ Prep) and Mrs Rachel Rees (Head of Sixth Form at Monmouth School for Girls).

Mrs Miles said: “Six weeks ago I could barely run for two minutes without needing a lie down.

“My mum has battled through many things but she is now on dialysis three times a week, and she keeps going strong, and that is what inspired me to put a team together.”

The Monmouth team was among around 9,000 entrants who laced up their trainers for one of the leading road races in the UK.
