HMSG Hub a hit for future business leadersDecember 4th, 2015
Following the launch of the HMSG Hub in March, the second event has proven even more successful with businesswomen and entrepreneurs sharing their stories about the world of business and inspiring students to follow their dreams as future business leaders.
The event was organised by HMSG students in partnership with the Women’s Business Club and attracted businesswomen from a variety of different industries including finance, printing, marketing and jewellery making.
Jo Johnson, HMSG C4L co-ordinator said: “We are absolutely delighted that our students are benefitting from the expertise of successful businesswomen from a variety of industries. Not only does this give them business networking skills, but also the opportunity to make key contacts and arrange relevant work experience.” She added: “We are grateful to the Women’s Business Club for supporting the HMSG Hub, which has also facilitated a flourishing business-education partnership to raise the potential of our students.”
The breakfast provided an informal environment for girls and fellow business leaders to interact. Each industry was given a chance to explain what they do in three sentences, before welcoming questions and comments from the audience. That was followed by the opportunity to network.
Year 12 student Flo Wallis-Smith said, “It has been a really interesting morning. I am interested in marketing and advertising so speaking to local business Platform One has been really helpful. I am also hoping to get some work experience with them.”
Sher McCabe-Finlayson, Platform One Design was very positive about the morning. “The girls are very enthusiastic; it has been great to speak to them in such a relaxed environment.”
Karin Whittaker, Koroso Jewellery agreed. “It has been lovely to chat with so many girls. It is fantastic to have the younger generation involved. My route into the business world wasn’t straightforward, and I am hoping the girls can see that whatever it is you want to achieve, you can do it. I am not saying it is easy, but hard work and a strong idea can get you to the places you want to be.”
Special thank you must go to Angela De Souza, Director of the Women’s Business Club, for chairing the successful morning.
The next HMSG Hub will take place on Tuesday 8th March 2016 at 7.30 am. Women who have business expertise and a passion for inspiring young business women are invited to come along.
