Historic maiden title for BeckyOctober 24th, 2018
A former Monmouth student has won her maiden professional golf title after 18 years on the tour.
Becky Morgan enjoyed her golden moment after achieving a two-shot victory in the Hero Women’s Indian Open.
The former student at Monmouth School for Girls had previously achieved 22 top-10 finishes, tied for second spot at the Indian Open in 2015 and was runner-up in the 2001 French Open.
However, this was 44-year-old Becky’s first triumph in her 119th competition on the Ladies European Tour.
“It’s taken me 18 years and it’s a mixture of excitement and relief that finally I have done it,” said Becky, who was educated with her twin sister Rachel at Monmouth.
“I didn’t look at the scoreboard until the 18th green because I knew anything could happen. I knew I was doing fairly well, because I was playing well, but I kept to myself and let it happen.”
Becky, who represents Wales, grew up in Ross-on-Wye and became a ladies’ professional golfer in 2000.
She was introduced to golf when she was 12 years old by her grandfather.
“I have always loved everything about India,” said Becky.
“That’s why I have kept coming back and I did come close to winning a couple of times and finally I got the job done this time.”
