Ellie triumphs in local Aquathlon

120newEllie and Lucy took part in the annual Burnham-On-Sea aquathlon, comprising of a 150m swim and 1500m beach run.  Both girls were competing in the U15 age group, so had opposition far older than themselves.  Following the swim, Ellie was lying in 2nd place, after posting a 1.46 for the swim, with the leader just 3 seconds ahead.  Lucy had an excellent swim, and her time of 1.51 put her into 3rd place, with the run to follow.

The tough beach conditions suited Ellie, and she was the fastest female runner, making up the 3 seconds lost in the swim to take the overall win by just 2 seconds, beating all the boys in the process!  Lucy dug deep in the run and fought hard to the end and completed it well to finish 4th overall, whilst remembering she still has 2 years in the same age group.

This tops an excellent recent time for both girls, with Ellie being awarded a place in the Welsh Swimming Squad for backstroke.  She has additionally been given the opportunity to train with the Welsh Development Triathlon Academy, a year early, having impressed on the assessment day, where she reached the Gold Standard.  Lucy has made enormous improvements, particularly in her swimming, where she won 10 gold medals in the recent Monmouthshire championships.  Stars of the future…….watch this space!
