This week in English, Y6 have been immersed in the famous poem “ The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes.

They have written their own stanzas following the rhyme and rhythm of the poem, they have predicted the story development, shown empathy with Tim the Ostler and Bess, explored the themes of love, hate, jealousy and cruelty. Their group performances were excellent. Some quotes from the girls: “The love of Bess and the Highwayman was destroyed by sneaky Tim”, “ Tim must have felt sad having killed his true love”, “Bess was a brave individual because she sacrificed her life for true love”, “A very sad love story in verse”, “The best poem I have ever read”.
