5P have created some vibrant Day of the Dead masks as part of their Mexico topic – whilst they look terrifying, the festival is actually to celebrate the lives of lost loved ones.

Families dress as skeletons and join together to imagine their departed relatives have returned for feasting and dancing. Children are encouraged to join in so that they don’t fear death, but view it as a part of life. 5P thought the festival looked fun, but they all agreed the costumes were a bit scary!

Meanwhile, 5E have been reading and enjoying some classic poetry in their English lessons this week. The girls have looked at Matilda by Hilaire Belloc, a poem that taught them a valuable lesson – do not lie! The girls related the poem to the fable of The Boy Who Cried Wolf; unfortunately, Matilda suffered a similar fate. Using drama and role play, the girls were able to empathise with the different characters involved in the poem – it was also quite fun to step into someone else’s shoes for a while!
