French, Friendship and Fun!September 29th, 2014
Schoolchildren have just returned from an immersive trip to Normandy, throughout which they communicated in French to tackle everyday tasks and exciting activities.
Year 6 pupils from Inglefield House and The Grange stayed at Château de la Baudonnière, and found the trip gave their language skills a real boost.
Hilary Phillips, Head of Inglefield House, said: “The week was action packed with a variety of activities on le menu from assault course to archery, bread making to initiative exercises deep in the woods, canoeing, climbing and not to forget; French lessons!
“The girls and boys took part in all these activities in French while meal times were no exception to the learning process.
“Laying a table, the menu and clearing after were all in French and contributed to the total immersion of the week.
“There was also time to extend the children’s studies of the Second World War with a visit to the landing beaches, the Mulberry harbours and the 360 degree cinema at Arromanches.
“The trip was an amazing opportunity for the girls and boys of our school community to spend time together and enrich their experience of French.
“French, friendship, fun – a great week.”
