January 18, 2022

An Old Monmothian has been selected in Wales’ rugby squad for the Spanish leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Malaga and Seville.
Frankie Souto, who was last season’s 1st XV rugby captain at Monmouth School for Boys, will get his first taste of action on the international stage.
Frankie, who is part of the Dragons, has been named in the 13-strong squad as Wales face France, Kenya and Canada in Pool D in Malaga.
Mr Paul Morris, Master in Charge of Rugby Coaching at Monmouth School for Boys, said: “We are delighted to hear of Frankie’s selection for the Wales Sevens team.
“He first played for the 1st XV in Year 11 and was 1st XV captain of rugby for the season that didn’t happen, sadly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“He always impressed with his boundless enthusiasm, outstanding handling ability and never-say-die attitude.
“I am sure that Frankie will represent Wales with great pride and skill. We all wish Frankie and the Wales squad the very best of luck.”
The competition gets under way in Malaga this Friday (21st January) and runs until Sunday (23rd January).
