On Thursday and Friday this week we were very fortunate to be joined by a group of trainee art
and design teachers from the University of the West of England, Bristol, who led a mask making
workshop for the whole school. The masks were based upon the animal world and ranged in scale
from mice to elephants! The boys learned cardboard construction techniques, including making
structures to fit their heads, and building upon these using layers of 2D cardboard and 3D forms
to create the animal heads. These were then decorated using a range of techniques from painting
to sewing fabric. The boys were really excited and worked very hard to produce a diverse range
of beautiful masks, some of which will continue to be developed over the coming weeks in art and
design lessons.
