Since The Grange has been involved in the Severn and Wye Smokery ‘Eels in Schools’
conservation and sustainability project, it is estimated that the boys have, over the years, helped
to release approx. 100,000 elvers into Llangorse Lake! PIV’s day out started with a very welcome
bacon ‘butty’ on arrival. Teams of boys then released boxes of elvers from the shore and from
boats out on the lake – all part of the fun! They learned more about the fascinating life cycle of
eels; in addition they learned about the process of smoking fish, saw a demonstration of sushi
making and were enthralled by a superb display of the different ways in which to fillet fish. The
barbecue feast at lunchtime was an enormous treat. Many thanks to all involved for their time,
sharing their skills and their significant generosity!
