Stay-in-bed for Sam raises thousands for charity

September 10, 2020

Huge congratulations and thanks are due to everybody who took part in the virtual ‘Stay-in-bed
for Sam’ event which took place during the summer term.
Sam had been receiving hospital treatment since November last year at University Hospital Southampton, but
the wonderful news now is that since the big sleepover, he has successfully completed his course of chemotherapy
and has left hospital and has even visited his friends in Monmouth for a couple of real-life meetings away
from the computer screen.
Of course, he couldn’t leave hospital without presenting his huge cheque to the staff on the neurosurgery and
cancer wards in Southampton, where it will be spent on equipment to keep patients entertained and happy during
often difficult treatments. We hope to see Sam back at school full time very soon.
Over £4300 was raised in total and staff of the Piam Brown Ward at Southampton Children’s Hospital have written
a lovely letter of thanks headed with a very simple, handwritten message (pictured, above right.). Well done to
everyone!
