Harry surges to his first Gwent League triumph.

A promising Monmouth athlete is celebrating his first-ever Gwent Cross Country League race triumph.

Thirteen-year-old Harry, a pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, roared to victory in the Under-13 Boys’ race at Pembrey Country Park in Llanelli.

Representing Newport Harriers, Harry has enjoyed lots of success at regional and Welsh youth levels on the track, and achieved a winning time of 10:06.

Thirteen-year-old Henry and 14-year-old Oliver, both fellow Monmouth School for Boys’ pupils representing Newport Harriers, were 11th and 21st respectively in the Under-15 Boys’ race.

Henry, in particular, and Oliver put in top performances against athletes a year older than themselves.

Freya, a 13-year-old pupil at Monmouth School for Girls, was 15th in the Under-13 Girls’ race and the second Newport Harrier to cross the line.
