Cricket News: Sam Takes 5 for 7 on rain hit weekend of cricket

June 15, 2016

CricketUnfortunately bad weather resulted in a lot of the fixtures against Bromsgrove school being cancelled. The 1st XI travelled away and started well restricting Bromsgrove to  a run rate of below 3 an over. This was mainly down to some fine leg spin bowling from Lewis. Unfortunately a number of missed chances allowed Bromsgrove to post a challenging target of 220 off the reduced 40 overs. The Monmouth reply never really got going, and despite a solid 40 from Hywel and an excellent 46 from Matt, who was the last man out, the team fell short .

The U.15a team’s match followed a similar pattern with some early wickets not being capitalised upon and then Bromsgrove pushing on strongly at the end. In reply the U.15’s could not cope with the pace of the opening Bromsgrove attack and lost too many wickets against the new ball. The U.13a team also found themselves in the field. Bromsgrove made a reasonable start reaching 58-1, before Charlie got the team in and gave them a talking to on how efforts must be improved. This inspired the whole team, especially Sam who then took 5 wickets for 7 runs with his leg spin. Bromsgrove had no answer and were bowled out for 66. In reply Monmouth were cruising at 40 for no wicket before a run out and a couple of loose shots saw three wickets fall, before the team reached their total with plenty of overs left.
