Another glorious day of rowing at Monmouth autumn head

October 1, 2019
Last Sunday, Monmouth School Rowing Club competed at Monmouth Autumn Head, a regatta hosted by Monmouth Town here on the Wye.
The Rowing Club sent crews from every age group and achieved a good sweep of wins against over 200 entries from local schools and clubs. In the morning division, a senior Monmouth eight rowed well to win Open Eights and match the course record in the process with a quick time of 6 mins and 19 seconds. Congratulations go to Roan and Matthis for picking up wins in the 2nd and 3rd singles divisions and to Rui and Hamish for winning J18 pair. Conditions turned tricky in the second division, and the fourth form ‘Junior Colts’ rowed well to win the J15 eight, as did the 16s to win the coxed four and eight. Finally, and with a lot of pride on the line, two rival Monmouth fours comprised from the senior squad raced to win the J18 event.
Over the day, the school won eight events, which was every event we entered, and everyone performed well to amass a total of 41 first place medals.
We hope the huge sweep of wins this weekend is indicative of a successful season ahead, and we look forward to the upcoming head race season.
The Rowing Club looks forward to a busy Open Day, and we encourage anyone around on Saturday the 5th of October to take a look at our Olympic standard Empacher Eight on the Main School Lawn, or compete in the 100m ergo challenge.
