Monmouth School for Boys’ 1st XI successfully defended its title, winning the annual Castle Festival trophy at this year’s tournament at Kimbolton School.
Monmouth won all three games – with victories against Kimbolton, Victoria College Jersey and Watford Boys Grammar School.
Roahn was the batter of the tournament with fine scores of 97, 40 and 83, while Cian cracked a century in the last game against Watford.
The Monmouth boys played some excellent cricket during the three days.
Highlights of the festival were the excellent batting displays on each day with the 1st XI posting competitive totals after laying good platforms.
Owen, Noah, Cian, Henry, Zac and Sam all had a good festival with key contributions.
The pick of the bowlers was Tom L who took two four-wicket hauls and bowled with good control.
He was well supported by Arthur, who continued his brilliant season, as well as fellow seamers and John, Tom S and Sam, and spinners Cian and Owen.
The boys fielded superbly and with energy throughout and were supported frequently by some excellent glove work by Henry.
Fifteen boys participated across the three days for Monmouth and a big squad effort was largely down to the leadership from Year 13 players.
We would like to thank all the leavers in this side – Henry, Cian, Owen, Sam and Will – and wish them the best in their academic and cricketing journeys.
