With Mrs Nikki Cunningham-Smith — The Aspire Mentoring Programme Manager

September 2023 saw the launch of Haberdashers’ Monmouth’s Aspire Mentoring Programme. Historically, mentoring sits within passive and informal support and is largely dictated by the idea of a mentee chasing mentor support and links.  Aspire breaks the mould by adopting a more formalised and structured process. It puts mentorship under the noses of students in an easy, productive, and measurable way.

Aspire pairs our Sixth Formers with members from our School’s vast Alumni communities.  As we approach our whole school Co-Educational launch in September 2024, it has been incredible to see the Alumni and Alumnae volunteers come together to provide support and lasting opportunities such as Work Experience and Internships to our Sixth Formers.

Each participant has access to four sessions with a mentor in the sector of their choice over the academic year.  This is especially beneficial for our international students who can establish links and networking situations in the UK that will stay with them for life, with guidance and support as they navigate future career and higher education options. It also provides opportunities to work on develop networking skills, build confidence and relationships. Also to help develop resilience and character and help channel aspirations towards a career or work sector.

Aspire goes the extra mile and gives pupils convenient digital access to UK sectors and Industry insights to help guide them to life beyond school as here at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, we are a support network for life.

Who is eligible for The Aspire Mentoring Programme?

All sixth formers at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School will be invited to take part, but it is not compulsory that students are required to take part in the programme.
