Year 8 Visit to Local Churches

June 11, 2024

Last month, our Year 8 students enjoyed a delightful visit to our local churches, exploring the rich diversity of Christian denominations in Monmouth.

Their journey began at Monmouth Baptist Church, where Reverend Greaves warmly welcomed them and showed the baptism pool. At the Methodist Chapel, the students learned about the cherished tradition of preaching in this denomination.

Next, they visited St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, where the holy relics captivated their interest, and a few even tried out the old-fashioned confession box. At St Mary’s Priory Church, Reverend Tim Dack kindly explained the unique practices of communion and baptism in various denominations.

Back at school, our students spent some reflective time in our own beautiful chapel, admiring the amazing artwork on display.

Our Year 8 students are now channelling their experiences into creative projects, which will take the place of a summer exam in Religious Studies. Our A Level students also joined us on this enriching trip, aiding their study of the ‘Expressions of Religious Identity’ unit in their Year 12 course.
