Happy children reunited with favourite snowpup Dixton

October 5, 2017

Children from a Monmouth school have been reunited with their favourite puppy after a spectacular adventure to find him.

More than 40 giant snowdogs have been placed at Cardiff’s famous landmarks until November 26 in an initiative to raise money for T? Hafan children’s hospice.

And last week the Year 2 pupils from Monmouth Schools Pre-Prep and Nursery at Agincourt were thrilled to see their eye-catching fibreglass sculpture, Dixton, at the Capitol Centre in Queen Street on the final stop of their tour.

The children painted Dixton earlier this year and he is among 57 snowpups created by schools and community groups as part of a learning programme.

Dixton has been sited next to two other snowpups – Grenville and Sir Gilbert Inglefield – which represent Monmouth School Boys’ Prep and Monmouth School Girls’ Prep respectively.

Dixton was signed by all staff and children at Monmouth Schools Pre-Prep and Nursery, while his collar is made up of the children’s fingerprints.

Teacher, Mrs Kath Franklin, also painted scenes from nine creative curriculum themes, and the core values of the school – respect, resilience, resourcefulness and reflection – have been written on Dixton’s paws.

Six T? Hafan volunteers dressed up as snowdogs and accompanied the Monmouth children along the public art trail as they visited many of the impressive sculptures, including a giant crocodile.

The theme of Snowdogs: Tails in Wales is based on the much-loved novel and animated film, The Snowman and The Snowdog, and its characters.
