Tremendous spirit in Plate triumph

April 3, 2019

The under-13s won the Plate competition.

The junior lacrosse players at Monmouth School for Girls showed tremendous spirit to win a title at an annual competition in Berkshire.

The under-13s bounced back from an early exit in the main competition to take home the Plate at the South West Lacrosse Rally.

Downe House School hosted the annual rally which involved the leading lacrosse-playing independent schools in the region.

Five of the Monmouth team had taken part in a strenuous fund-raising event the previous night and they all worked hard as a unit, despite the inevitable fatigue.

In the Plate competition, Monmouth defeated St Hughes in their semi-final before recording a comfortable 4-0 success against Heathfield in the final.

Meanwhile, the under-12s also played some excellent lacrosse and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Cup before bowing out.

They registered wins against Goldsmith’s, St Swithun’s and drew with Sherborne to progress to the knockout stages.

The girls then pipped the hosts, Downe House, 3-2 to book a place in the quarter-finals where their cup hopes were dashed by a 3-0 defeat to Queen Anne’s.

The under-12s progressed to the cup quarter-finals.
