July 30, 2019

Monmouth School for Boys’ pupils Antony, Ben, Cameron and Robbie finished third in the junior men’s coxless fours.

The rowing quartet of Antony, Ben, Cameron and Robbie took the plaudits for Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools in the prestigious 2019 Home International Regatta.

The four students at Monmouth School for Boys were edged into third place, narrowly missing first or second, for Wales in the junior men’s coxless fours.

They were among 16 rowers from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools who represented Wales in the 53rd annual Home International Regatta, at Strathclyde Country Park in Scotland last weekend.

An event rich in history, it features the Home Nations of Scotland, England Ireland and Wales and has created a pathway on to Great Britain and Rowing Ireland national teams for decades.

Scotland won the overall Junior Men’s title and England carried off the Junior Women’s prize, with the Wales teams finishing fourth in both sections.

Antony, Ben, Cameron and Robbie have had an excellent season for the school and finished just one second behind the winners, England, and 0.01 seconds adrift of the runners-up, Scotland.

Fellow Monmouth School for Boys’ pupils Ryan, Joe, Hamish, Rui, Angus and Alex also represented Wales, finishing fourth in their races.

Monmouth School for Girls’ pupils Sonia, Sasha, Darcy, Abigail, Harriet and Anna also represented Wales. They gained lots of experience from the hard-fought regatta and finished fourth in their respective crews.
