Professor Angela V John with pupils from Monmouth School for Girls

Professor Angela V John delivered a wonderful talk about a formidable local character, The Remarkable Lady Rhondda: Suffragette, Businesswoman and Journalist.
A packed audience in the library at Monmouth School for Boys heard about the fascinating life of Margaret Haig Thomas (1883-1958), a leading British industrial and a passionate activist for women’s rights. There is an ongoing campaign to raise funds for a statute of Lady Rhondda to be built in Newport.
Professor John is Lady Rhondda’s biographer, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a renowned author, and a member of the Monumental Welsh Women panel.
Professor John worked closely with Welsh National Opera on its acclaimed touring show, Rhondda Rips It Up!, based on Lady Rhondda’s life.
