James is travelling to West Virginia in the USA.

A teenager will be whitewater rafting in an adventure-filled trip to the World Scout Jamboree in the USA.

Sixteen-year-old James is heading to West Virginia for the 12-day 24th World Scout Jamboree which starts in West Virginia on Monday 22nd July.

It is a timely summer break for James, who has just taken his GCSE examinations at Monmouth School for Boys.

A member of the White Dragon Explorer Scout Unit in Raglan, James will be representing Wales at the jamboree having passed an interview and impressed in practical tests.

“It’s a huge treat and I am very pleased that I passed the tests to be accepted into the World Scout Jamboree,” said James, who will be moving into Monmouth Schools Sixth Form in September.

“The camp has got so many activities for us that we won’t have enough time to see and do everything.

“It’s a huge camp with whitewater rafting, which I am looking forward to, and it even has its own mountain range.”

The World Scout Jamboree is an educational event bringing together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills.

James is also looking forward to sightseeing in Washington before heading out to Canada after the jamboree to spend time with another scout group.
