Business-minded students have won through to the UK Young Enterprise National Final in London.

MySlides, formed by A level students at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, scooped three awards at the Welsh final on Monday 11th June.

Headed by Adam, MySlides won the Welsh Young Enterprise Company of the Year, Best Company Report, and took the Digital Award for the most effective use of information technology.

The students from Monmouth School for Boys and Monmouth School for Girls will now represent Wales at the UK Young Enterprise National Final on Friday 6th July in County Hall, London.

Previously, MySlides scooped four awards in the regional final, winning the overall title of Best Company in the Newport & Monmouthshire area.

The company also won Best Product or Service, Best Presentation, and Best Trade Stand at the regional event

The students have been printing eye-catching personalised logos, patterns and pictures on to slider shoes.

Sixth Form student, Adam, said: “I am immensely proud of the company for achieving the company of the year.

“The development of our sliders has been a long and challenging process in which we have grown and learnt so much.

“I am also very proud of the team for stepping up and answering challenging questions from the judges and members who delivered our presentation.

“The success of MySlides can be put down to the identification of a strong gap in the market and then our tireless hard work to refine our product to a marketable standard.”

Running throughout the academic year, the Sixth Form students have been making all the decisions about their business and working together as a team in specific roles, including sales, marketing, production, human resources and finance.

It was the third year in a row that a team from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools had reached the Welsh final.

However, it is the first time the schools have entered mixed teams.  According to teachers Mr Nick Goodson and Miss Michele Attrill, the mixed teams have brought a new dynamic to the tasks.

The pupils have also received tremendous support from business advisor, Dr Delyth Harris.

Adam said: “The dynamic has been unbelievably positive owing to the combination of the unique skill-sets from both schools as well as the strong hard-working mentality of all members.”

Another company formed by Sixth Form pupils at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, called Firebit, won the Best Company Report award at the regional final. Headed by Jensen, Firebit are producing fashion apparel linked to app games.
