A Sixth Form student at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools is taking the cricket world by storm.
Sophia, a left-arm spin bowler, is shining for England at the women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in South Africa.
The 18-year-old has snapped up seven competition wickets in helping England to three successive victories in the Super Six stage – and a place in the semi-finals of the inaugural World Cup.
Against Zimbabwe, Sophia, from Year 13, bagged 2-5 off two overs as England stormed to a 174-run victory.
The Monmouth School for Girls’ student took 2-10 in England’s 53-run win over Pakistan and 3-11 in a comfortable 121-run success against Ireland.
England play the West Indies today, starting at 11.45am, at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, in their latest match at the World Cup.
In a warm-up fixture ahead of the competition, Sophia claimed 1-3 from three overs as England comfortably overcame the West Indies’ challenge.
