Sixth Form rowers at Monmouth School for Boys impressed during 2km races at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

The coxless four of Philip, Will, Max and Ollie had a brilliant morning, winning the B Final of the Intermediate Coxed Fours.

The coxless fours showed an impressive turn of speed in the last 250m to storm past another crew and were rewarded with on specially-designed coronation medals.

The coxless four finished their fourth 2km of the day against some of the top club coxless fours in the country, including crews with their eyes on winning the Henley Royal Regatta.

Due to the nature of the events, all the boys raced against adults, with only a sprinkling of junior crews present.

Meanwhile, the coxed four of Ben H, Alex, Jacob and George, which was coxed by Ben J, took third in the morning’s Open Coxed Fours.

They backed this up with a second-placed finish in the Intermediate event in the afternoon. The boys were narrowly pushed into second spot, by one second, against university students.

The pairing of Noah and Leo took to the water in their first regatta in that boat type, coming home an impressive second and third in their open events, learning plenty along the way.

This weekend, the J14s and J15s stay closer to home at the Worcester Regatta, while five crews have been entered into the upcoming National Schools’ Regatta and the Welsh trials.
