Sea of yellow transforms schools for mental health day

October 11, 2021

The classrooms, corridors and playgrounds at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools were filled with yellow on Friday (8th October) in support of mental health and wellbeing.

Children and staff at Monmouth Prep School, Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School for Boys joined together to raise funds for the mental health charity, YoungMinds.

The event was held to mark World Mental Health Day and the children and staff were delighted to throw their support behind #HelloYellow.

The family of schools held a host of activities to raise funds.

The fund-raising activities at Monmouth School for Boys included an opportunity to throw wet sponges at the Headmaster, Mr Simon Dorman; and Deputy Head, Mr David Edwards, a homemade bake sale; rugby and rowing challenges.

Principal, Mr James Murphy-O’Connor, said: “It was wonderful to see so many children and staff from our three schools dressed in yellow in support of such an important cause ahead of World Mental Health Day.

“It was a very inspiring day and we hope that it will encourage togetherness, boost wellbeing, increase creativity and build awareness around the importance of mental health in young people.”

YoungMinds is a national charity that supports and empowers children during periods of difficult mental health and aims to ensure that they have the best possible support to enable them to build resilience and overcome whatever challenges life throws at them.
