Arrival of school bags delight children in Matabeleland

July 19, 2022

More than 40 bags from Monmouth Prep School are now being used by children in Southern Africa.
A parent at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, Mrs Julia Brockley, came up with the idea and spearheaded the collection and co-ordination of the school’s old bags.
Children at the prep school also put lovely notes and messages inside the bags.
The Hwange Schools Project is an ongoing initiative and Chris, a student at Monmouth School for Boys, actively supports the charity.
The Hwange Schools Project aims to improve literacy levels in the schools in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.
Many of the Hwange students walk an average of two hours a day, to and from school.
Chris said: “I would like to extend the thanks of the Hwange Schools Project charity in Zimbabwe for the donation of school back packs, and to Mrs Brockley for all her tremendous work in organising and co-ordinating the collection.”
