Runners tackle National Primary Cross Country Championships

April 1, 2019

Junior runners from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools competed in the National Primary Cross Country Championships at Prestwold Hall in Leicester.

The Year 5 children at Monmouth School Girls’ Prep and Monmouth School Boys’ Prep were joined by two pupils from Osbaston and one from Berry Hill primary schools.

Running under the banner of Monmouth, the children tackled an undulating 2.2km course, which was narrow in places and where the UK Inter Counties Championships had been held two weeks earlier.

More than 315 boys finished the Year 5 race with Osbaston’s William C coming an impressive 22nd and Matthew, from Monmouth School Boys’ Prep, 67th.

Monmouth School Boys’ Prep’s Josh and Will A, Osbaston’s Henry and Berry Hill’s Toby also ran well for the boys’ team from Monmouth.

Eight pupils at Monmouth School Girls’ Prep formed the girls’ team. Jess was 74th and Romy, 156th, as a remarkable 343 girls from all over the country finished the Year 5 race.

Grace, Issy, Verity, Kezia, Lara and Seren also ran with enthusiasm for the Monmouth team.
