Royal occasion for Ella and Eden

Ella and Eden meeting Prince Charles at Lambeth Palace.

Two Monmouth students had the special honour of meeting the Prince of Wales in the wonderful surroundings of Lambeth Palace in London.

Monmouth School for Girls pupils Ella and Eden met His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, at the finals of the Cranmer Awards, a competition sponsored by the Prayer Book Society,  on Thursday 21st February.

The competition, which has been run annually since 1989, introduces young people to Thomas Cranmer’s Book of Common Prayer and highlights the dignified worship of its services. Prince Charles is the Patron of the Prayer Book Society.

Ella, from Year 12, and Eden, from Year 10, reached the finals after winning the senior and junior categories, respectively, in the local heat for the Diocese of Monmouth, at which each read a four to five minute passage from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

Ella recited portions of the service set for the Anniversary of the Accession of the Reigning Sovereign, while Eden recited portions of the Catechism, an instruction for those being confirmed in the Anglican Church.

While the top prizes in the national finals were won by pupils from other schools, it was a very memorable day for Ella and Eden, who were introduced to the Prince of Wales and presented with a certificate.
