Quiz victory for winning Geographers

February 15, 2019

“Excellent teamwork” in the face of challenging questions proved a winning formula for Geography students from Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School for Boys recently.

A total of 13 teams took part in the Geographical Association’s Welshwise Quiz, with two teams of Year 8 pupils representing Monmouth School for Girls and two teams of Year 9 students representing Monmouth School for Boys.

Held at Cardiff University’s School of Planning and Geography, pupils answered a range of questions linked to the geography of Wales. There were eight rounds of questions, ranging from Wales in the wider world, sustainable Wales, an OS map round on the Gower Peninsula and Wales in the news.

Mr Meek, Head of Geography at Monmouth School for Girls, said: “We were very impressed with all the teams. There were some challenging questions, but all teams had fun and displayed excellent teamwork. Much was learnt about the magnificent geography of Wales.”

The results were close, with one Monmouth School for Boys team victorious on 66 points and one Monmouth School for Girls team finishing in third place on 60 points (Rosa, Aneshka and Jemima), just one point behind second place.
