Quartet bounce high in national trampoline finals

April 1, 2019

Four high-flying pupils at Monmouth School Boys’ Prep performed well at the British Schools Gymnastics Association’s Trampoline Finals in Staffordshire.

Gabriel, Feargus, Neil and Oscar represented the region at under-11 boys’ intermediate level after winning the Welsh Schools and then the Central Zone team events.

The Monmouth team gave an excellent display, finishing fourth overall against strong opposition in a hard-fought competition.

Even more impressive was that the Monmouth quartet impressed at intermediate level having not yet competed at National Development Plan (NDP) 1.

This year, Gabriel, Feargus and Neil have moved up to NDP1, which includes a two somersault routine.

With dedicated training to add a back somersault to their routines, the boys reached the Welsh qualifiers at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff where they snapped up a team gold medal.

Feargus came second, while Neil was third and Gabriel, fourth. Feargus missed out on Welsh qualification by just 0.5 but all boys bounced well to take the top spot.

Oscar competed at Club 3 level and Rupert competed Club 1 level and both secured medals in their respective sections.

Now the boys are looking forward to their final outing of the season at The Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) National Trampoline Championships at the Royal Russell School in London next month.

Three of the trampoline team will be moving up to Monmouth School for Boys in September and the remaining under-11s team member, Oscar, is looking for boys to join him.
