Pupils ‘Dash’ to tournament semi-final

June 18, 2019

Talented football players from Years 6 and 7 at Monmouth School for Girls reached the semi-finals of Monmouth Town Junior Club’s annual tournament.

Playing under the team name of the ‘Monmouth Dashers’, Lucy, Emma, Olivia, Seren, Arabella and Thandi played five extremely competitive games in the under-12s category, improving their individual skills and team performance with every game.

The girls finished third in their pool and qualified for the semi-finals after winning games against Raglan Doves and Ross Juniors, and drawing against Ledbury Swifts.

The Dashers then put up a brave fight against Monmouth Town before losing 2-1 in a hard-fought match.

Speaking about the event, Mr Nick Meek said: “Some of the girls had relatively little football experience before the tournament and did extremely well – coping with fast, attacking teams, defending and taking the ball forward at every opportunity.”

Mr Meek added: “Great fun was had by all. Congratulations to the girls, who demonstrated great team spirit and ability throughout.”
