Promising cricketer Rosie has been picked for Wales

A promising cricketer from Monmouth School for Girls will be representing Wales this summer.

Twelve-year-old leg-spin bowler Rosie has been selected in Cricket Wales’ Under-13 Girls’ squad for the coming season.

Rosie, a student in Year 8, represented the Welsh team in 2017.

She has successfully retained her place in the 16-strong squad after impressing at winter trials in Cardiff and in Ebbw Vale.

Rosie is in her first year at Monmouth School for Girls and plays her club cricket at Newport where she captains the girls’ under-12 side.

Monmouth School for Girls will be running a cricket team for the first time this summer when it enters an under-15s into the National Schools Twenty20 cricket competition.

Headmistress at Monmouth School for Girls, Dr Caroline Pascoe, said: “The introduction of cricket will bring an exciting new dimension to our vibrant sports programme.

“At Monmouth, we have a proud sporting tradition and more than 50 students gained recognition at international and regional level last year.

“We provide opportunities for over 100 girls to take part in organised fixtures each weekend.”
