Year 1 Fair Trade Café

March 8, 2019

The Year 1 children had been planning their café for some weeks and finally Fair Trade Fortnight had arrived.

The project started with designing and making their own t-shirts to wear when serving the fair trade tea and cakes. The children learned all about fair trade farming during a trip to our local Waitrose. Next, they wrote recipes to be bound together as a book and sold at the café. They sourced the ingredients to make their cakes and chocolate products and enjoyed creating
them. Posters to advertise the event were carefully drawn and displayed all over the school. Finally, the children set up and decorated the café, just in time to welcome their parents and carers to join us for tea on March 7th.

I am so very proud of our fantastic Year 1 staff and children for their efforts during this fabulous fundraising project, full of learning and fun.

Thanks too to Baxter’s family for donating the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream!
