A keen swimmer at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools has successfully completed his sixth fund-raising plunge for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Mr Christopher Horner, who teaches violin to pupils at Monmouth Prep School and Monmouth School for Girls, was among 200 people who tackled the Castle 2 Castle Open Water Swim on Sunday 12th September.

Mr Horner’s pre-event training at Barry Island paid dividends as he navigated the one-mile swim, near Falmouth, across the Carrick Roads between Pendennis and St Mawes castles.

“It was a grey and overcast day, but it was not raining and there was a current here and there to keep things interesting,” said Mr Horner, whose latest swim has already raised more than £270 for the RNLI.

“I didn’t encounter or see any jellyfish either,” added Mr Horner, who enjoyed catching up with members of his family based in Cornwall.

“All donations are for the training of and equipment for the RNLI volunteer force; an organisation that relies solely on donations and receives no government support.”
