Year 2 trip to the Roman Baths

April 27, 2018

During their visit to the Roman Baths in Bath, Year 2 took part in an educational workshop where they learnt about Roman dress, including togas, and had the opportunity to try some on. They handled and identified Roman artefacts, including a 2000 year old piece of pottery, and completed an observation and sketching activity looking at the Grand Bath. The children toured the Grand Bath and the museum seeing the hot springs, Roman coins, mosaics and the Ladies and Gentlemen’s Bath house along the way. They spoke to the Romans that they spotted around the Grand Bath, who remained in character whilst talking to them. The Romans explained the customs surrounding the Bath House and taught the children some Latin greetings – salve/hello and gratias/thank you.  All in all, it was a great day out and the children behaved beautifully.
