Outdoor Classroom Day

May 18, 2018

We were blessed with beautiful sunny weather for our Outdoor Classroom Day on Thursday. Outdoor Classroom Day is a global initiative which was introduced to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play.

The children arrived to find an enormous inflatable assault course on the field, and that was just the start of the excitement! Nursery kicked off with Forest School, followed by a session on the assault course and an afternoon of watery fun in their outdoor area. Reception called on their best collaboration and team work skills and built an enormous dinosaur from cardboard, as well as making ‘Journey Sticks’ in Forest School and fitting in some tennis with Mrs Clarke. Year 1 made bricks from mud and straw. Once dry, they used these to build their own Egyptian houses. An additional challenge was to move an incredibly heavy box across the playground, using only ropes and rollers – Egyptian style. Year 2 tested their teamwork skills too, whilst completing a variety of challenges, including orienteering, code-breaking and an obstacle course. They enjoyed some highly competitive relays on the assault course, with the staff finding their inner Commanding Officers and hollering orders from the sidelines!
