Storm Dennis – Latest updates
Thank you for your patience and support during the challenging period since our Pre-Prep and Nursery was flooded as a result of Storm Dennis. We have been extremely proud of the way the children and our staff have responded to this difficult situation; demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, initiative and resilience.
We would like to commend Mr Wren for his expert handling of the relocation and to recognise the professionalism and dedication of our staff team from MPP, who have worked so hard to ensure continuity of education for your children. Finally, we would also like to thank our colleagues at the girls’ prep who have been so welcoming and accommodating sharing Inglefield House for the last few days, as well as our support staff who have been involved with the clean-up operation.
We have now been able to access the Agincourt premises and have undertaken a full assessment of the damage and losses. Unfortunately, we will need to refurbish the entire ground floor and the outside spaces. In all likelihood, this will not be completed until the summer holidays and we are, therefore, planning to reopen the Pre-Prep and Nursery on the Agincourt site in September in time for the new school year.
We would like to thank the very generous parents who have pledged help and support with the clean-up operation and contingency planning, both practical and in terms of equipment and resources. Whilst extremely grateful for these pledges, the whole operation is now in the hands of our insurers and their approved contractors.
We are lucky to be part of a family of schools with extensive grounds and buildings and are delighted to be able to brief you on our plans for the remainder of this academic year. The whole of the Pre-Prep and Nursery will be relocated to a single building attached to Twiston Davies House, on the Monmouth Girls’ School site. It is adjacent to the girls’ sports hall and immediately in front of Inglefield House. The accommodation is very large, arranged over three floors and has fully enclosed outdoor play spaces suitable for the Nursery and Reception children. It is in a central location enabling all children to continue to eat in the girls’ dining room, share their sports and swimming facilities, and to use the outdoor play space at Inglefield House. We are already moving teaching resources and equipment into the new premises and hope to be able to relocate the entire Pre-Prep and Nursery into this building by Monday 9th March for the rest of the Lent and Summer terms.
Inevitably, there will be minor issues to iron out as we move into entirely new premises, but we are proud of the way the schools have been able to respond so quickly to such exceptional circumstances. We would like pupils and parents to have an opportunity to view the new site as soon as it is ready for use and appreciate in advance your continuing support and understanding as we move into our temporary new home.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions regarding the new plans, or continue to communicate directly with Mr Wren regarding the day-to-day running of the school.
