Michaelmas 2019 Week 9: 15/11/2019

Michaelmas Term – Week 9

Wow, what a week! It certainly has been action packed and fun filled. We kicked things off on Monday by marking Remembrance for the whole day. One of our 6 core values is Respect and what better way of demonstrating this, than honouring those that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and remembering those that still continue to protect our country. Our fantastic staff pulled out all the stops to provide a range of activities for each year group. Marking the D-Day landings, our Nursery staff created a field hospital scenario whereby children needed to administer appropriate first aid and transport the wounded soldier on a stretcher to a waiting vessel. Reception staff worked with all the children to create tissue paper poppy stained glass, whilst the Year 1 staff helped the children create their own poppy wallpaper using iPads. They also transported the children back in time to create evacuee photographs. In Year 2, children had the opportunity to make a class poppy wreath, and add their art work to the whole school poppy remembrance wall.

On Tuesday, we welcomed Mark and his team from Bee1 to the school. We are incredibly blessed and thankful to receive an ‘eco-pack’ from the Wiltshire family as this means we now have our very own beehive with our school logo. (To be kept off site!) Consequently, the children will be able to taste, jar and label our own honey in addition to learning about biodiversity and beekeeping. As part of their visit, the Bee1 team spent some time with all the children focusing on wellbeing and mindfulness and everybody had the opportunity to take part in a yoga workshop.

The fun didn’t stop there either, Nursery had a visit from Louby Lou’s friend, Alys this week, Reception had a ‘Forest School Skills Day’, Year 1 completed some beautiful paintings using body parts and Year 2 directed and performed their own weather forecasts.
