Michaelmas Term – Week 8

Wishing you all, a very warm welcome back. I am pleased to report that the rising waters of the Half-Term break seem a distant memory and we have all embraced the second half of the Michaelmas Term with gusto! This week, the children had a visit from Monmouth Fire Service. They all listened attentively to the messages about fire safety and enjoyed having the opportunity to explore the fire engine and its plethora of equipment.

Our Nursery children have been learning about Diwali as part of their studies this week. They have created some amazing firework inspired pictures whilst listening to Handel and they have even set up a temporary Forest School area! Both Reception classes were busy making firework rockets as part of their Bonfire Night celebrations this week. They have also begun to create some clay hedgehogs as part of their Art & Design work.

Meanwhile, over in Year 1 children have been observing changes in their environment and discussing seasonal changes. Pupils wrote definitions for each season and embellished their work using finger paint decorations.

Lastly, our Year 2 classes have been learning about hibernation. As a follow up, they considered key factors and worked in small teams to design, make and evaluate hedgehog homes using a range of materials. If that isn’t enough, there has also been a touch of festive preparations across the school too!
